Repurposing an Existing Playground and Its Equipment

Playspace Design was called on to repurpose existing playground equipment that was more than 14 years old into a new infant, toddler, and preschool natural play environment. The children were involved in the design and very interested in watching the site being built. The result was a wonderful space with areas—such as a stage with a pergola—to facilitate dramatic play, gardens, a large sandbox with shade, an art studio, and stamped concrete walkways. Working with the natural landscape of the space, as you can see in the photos, we designed the slides and climbing walls into the hills.

While this was a larger project, you can see the smaller activity areas planned as part of the overall design. The goal of this project was to enable the children to take their learning outside and spend more quality time outdoors.
